First Hammar 500 model enters service in the UK

Hammar has delivered the first Hammar 500 HC model to the United Kingdom. The unit has been supplied to Galt Transport Ltd in Scotland, bringing the advanced capabilities of Hammar’s flagship Sideloader model to the UK container handling market.

The Hammar 500 is the top-of-the-line model in Hammar’s range, featuring high lifting capacity and the largest handling area available on the market. The unit delivered to Galt Transport is equipped with a 45-tonne lifting capacity and is capable of stacking two containers high (up to 30 t) and two rows deep (up to 17 t). It has a crane reach of up to 6 metres, enabling placement of containers further into sites and over obstacles. Thanks to the model’s versatile stabilisers, it can quickly and easily handle containers on and off other vehicles, including rail wagons.

The unit handles shipping containers between 20’ and 45’, including the ability to lift and transport 2×20’ simultaneously. The semi-trailer chassis is telescopic and can be adjusted from 10.35 metres (20’ configuration) to 15.1 metres (45’ configuration). A container can be moved forwards and backwards while loaded on the chassis, which supports more accurate and flexible positioning during loading, unloading and on-site placement. The unit is powered by a Kohler Stage IV turbo-diesel powerpack, making it fully independent and compatible with any standard tractor unit.
Daniel Söderberg, Area Sales Manager at Hammar for the United Kingdom, commented:

“We are proud to see the first Hammar 500 enter service in the UK with Galt Transport. The 500 model represents the highest level of lifting performance in our range. With 45-tonne lifting capacity, double-row stacking and extended reach, it enables operators to handle heavier and more complex container movements more efficiently. We look forward to supporting Galt Transport as they introduce these new capabilities to the Scottish market.”

Galt Transport Ltd, headquartered near Glasgow, is a family-owned transport company with nearly 80 years of experience in haulage, crane hire and specialist transport services across the UK and Europe.

“The new Hammar gives us the ability to carry out more advanced container movements and placements. Being able to double-stack containers, as well as lift over to pick up a second container, gives far more options for our customers. Whether it’s heavy lifting or complex container placements, our new Hammar has proven itself to be a highly capable and versatile addition to our fleet.” said Andrew Galt, Operations Director at Galt Transport.
